The UC Board of Regents has voted to adopt an environmental study for UC Berkeley's proposed Air & Space Center, a massive research and development planned at Moffett Field near NASA Ames Research Center.
The project, which will be built on roughly 39 acres of federal land, calls for the construction of 2.3 million square feet of offices, laboratory space, and research and development facilities. Plans also call for a conference center, up to 300 units of student or faculty housing, commercial uses, and a central green space.
HOK and Field Operations headline the design team for the project.
Planned as a joint venture between SKS Partners NRP, LLC and the University of California, the project is estimated to cost more than $2 billion to complete.
Construction is required to begin on all components of the project by no later than 2045.
