Construction has commenced for a massive mixed-use development that will eventually create more than 7,200 homes in the Bayview.
Built on a 270-acre site once home to Candlestick Park, the 2.8-million-square-foot development from FivePoint will eventually include:
- 7,200 new homes, including approximately 700 in the first phase, nearly half of which will be affordable
- An innovation district with up to 2.8 million square feet of flexible commercial space
- 2.5 miles of publicly accessible bay waterfront
- 60 city blocks of new development
- 100 acres of parks and open space
- Shops, restaurants, a hotel, and entertainment uses
“For years, San Franciscans have heard about the potential for Candlestick. Today, I am proud that we are finally breaking ground and taking the first step toward 7,200 new homes for San Franciscans,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie in a news release. “Early in my administration, I came to this site with the leaders of 12 city departments to ask how we can go faster. As we prepare to turn this long-vacant land into a new neighborhood that will begin welcoming families again, we will keep pushing to move construction faster, bring homes online sooner, and make sure the surrounding community benefits at every stage. Thank you to Supervisor Walton, FivePoint, the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, our labor partners, community leaders, and everyone who stayed committed to Candlestick and to the future of the Bayview.”
The initial 700 homes to be built in the project will include 314 affordable units, as well as retail and restaurant space.
Perkins&Will developed the master plan for the Candlestick Point project.
