A developer is dusting off plans for a large multifamily residential development in Downtown San Jose, reports the Mercury News.
The project from American Housing Co., a subsidiary of Oakland-based oWow, calls for the construction of a 25-story tower including 372 units of below market-rate housing at 439-451 S. Fourth Street.
According to the CTCAC staff report, the affordable units would include a mix of single-room occupancy units, as well as traditional one- and two-bedroom apartments. The apartments would cater to renters earning between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income, with proposed rents ranging from $1,055 to $3,164 per month.
The Mercury News reports that the project is expected to cost nearly $160 million.
The property, located one block from the San Jose State University campus, was previously slated for a smaller 210-unit building.
